Moving in with your guy may be one of the most important steps you take and definitely an exciting one. Its not only fun but is also a practical way forward in a serious relationship and more and more couples are considering it now a days.

But moving in with calls in for certain adjustments, especially if you are doing it for the first time. Here are a few points to be kept in mind:

  1. My décor to our décor: So you were used to having that picture in the living room but now he wants to put up his posters too. The easiest solution is to set them both up on different walls. Mix match is a trend and it makes the place yours and his.
  2. Sleeping timings: It would be amazing if both of you are night owls or early birds but if that’s not the case and you prefer to sleep later than him then make sure you watch Netflix with the earphones on or work in the living area. This really helps in keeping the peace.
  3. You’ll need a space for your grooming: Before moving in when you went on dates you had enough space and time to get dolled up but now that he’s there 24/7 it would help if you can set up a dressing area either in the bedroom on in the washroom where you can groom yourself comfortably.
  4. Cooking and cleaning shifts: So you may have that team meeting running late thrice a week or may have Saturdays off while he has a different work schedule. Its best to set up a routine of who’s cleaning which area of the house and who’s cooking when or whether to order take outs. Dividing the chores makes it easy on both.
  5. Its okay to fight: This is a major life style change and clashes are bound to happen. Its perfectly normal. Just take a breather, go out for a walk and things will be perfectly fine.
  6. Do your own thing: Living together doesn’t mean you have to do everything together. He may want to binge watch his series while you want to go out with the gang. So don’t hold back, enjoy yourselves the way you want to.
  7. Make a common budget: Make a mutual budget for all your common expenses like grocery, rent, electricity etc. It doesn’t matter if your contribution is more or less as long as you both are on the same page. This will also reduce your impulsive purchases.

Finally have patience and be open to changes. This goes both ways. Its tricky in the initial phase only and once that clears off its mostly safe sailing.

Happy moving in!
